Ford Genuine Parts or aftermarket parts, which is the best value for your Ford truck or car? That’s a discussion that has been going on for decades, but it is becoming increasingly clear: genuine parts are the best value if performance, durability, and reliability are the principal objectives. At Elk Grove Ford we sell a lot of F Series work trucks to Sacramento area commercial fleets. Fleet managers are tasked with maximizing uptime for the vehicles while minimizing the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO). We think that’s a good way for all car and truck owners to view their maintenance choices particularly when it comes to parts.
At Elk Grove Ford, we only use Ford Genuine Parts in our service department and of course we only sell Ford Genuine Parts in our parts department. Our overall objective is to give our customers the best value for their investment and we know that the best way to keep the TCO of their Ford vehicle under control is to repair it with experienced, factory trained technicians using Genuine Ford replacement parts. The vehicle gets fixed the first time and stays fixed minimizing the down time and inconvenience experienced by the owner.
Here are a few of our arguments for Genuine Ford Parts:
Aftermarket parts are reverse-engineered and are generally less expensive than original equipment manufacturer (OEM) parts. But are they the same parts? We think not. For example, you can go to a big box home improvement store and buy a M10 x 1.25 bolt but is it made of the same material as the original? Does the thread pitch really match? This is a simple, non-auto, example but it makes our point.
Auto manufacturers, Ford included, have spent decades creating “recipes” for sheet metal, plastic, insulation, alloys, software and more. These specs change frequently, not to create obstacles for aftermarket manufacturers, but to enhance the performance, durability, and safety of the vehicles. When you get a genuine part, you are getting a part that has been designed and engineered specifically for the vehicle you are driving.
Remember when you could take a socket wrench, torque wrench, and a handful of other tools to do your own repairs? Now think about the number of sensors and micro computers that are in your current ride. Parts have become far more complex than they once were.
With today’s integrated sensors and data collection used to monitor operating conditions, parts have to talk to each other. That machine to machine language (M2M) uses proprietary code that aftermarket manufacturers may not have access to. With Ford Genuine Parts you can be assured that all of your systems are compatible.
Ford isn’t going anywhere. Not only do we heavily stock our service department to ensure we have what you need when you need it, we can go directly to the source for more. Even if you have a very old Ford and a certain part is out of production, we have a network of dealers we can work with to see if they have the part in stock. This becomes important for collectors and show car enthusiasts.
If you want to make a modification to your Ford, and Ford doesn’t have the part you need, feel free to talk to our knowledgeable parts department for recommendations about the best aftermarket product. They will also explain if there are any warranty issues with the mod you plan to install.
Maximize the uptime of your vehicle and extend its life using Ford Genuine Parts.
