Ford Super Duty Truck Power Stroke Engine

Ford Super Duty trucks have been named the best in class for several years when it comes to durability, power, towing, torque, and more, for a reason. And powering the toughest heavy-duty pickup truck is the Ford Power Stroke Diesel Engine.

The Power Stroke engine was first introduced in 1994, and is largely considered one of the best diesel engines ever produced. Since 1994, the Power Stroke has only improved. It’s now lighter, more powerful, and more fuel efficient than ever before. The 6.7L Power Stroke Turbo Diesel used today is capable of reaching an unbeatable, best-in-class 450 horsepower and 935 lb-ft of torque.

Power Stroke Diesel Engine Maintenance & Repair

To keep your Ford Super Duty truck running like new, it’s extremely important to maintain it with specific Super Duty service, at the recommended maintenance intervals.

For the 6.7L diesel engine, under normal operating conditions, the recommended service intervals are as follows:

  • Oil Changes & Oil Filter: the instrument cluster message center will indicate when the oil and the oil filter need to be changed.
  • Fuel Filter: The fuel filter should be changed either every third oil change, every 22,500 miles, or as indicated by the instrument cluster message center, whichever comes first.
  • Air Filter: The air filter minder should be inspected every 10,000 miles and replaced as recommended by your Ford service expert technician.
  • Coolant: You should change the coolant at 105,000 or 72 months, whichever comes first. Then after the initial change, the coolant should be changed every 45,000 miles.

Under special operating conditions, such as off-roading conditions, towing for over 1,000 miles, or the use of any Biodiesel, to name a few, some things need to be checked and subsequently changed with greater frequency. For example, the fuel filter typically needs to be changed every 15,000 miles, rather than every 22,500 miles. The air filer should be inspected every 5,000 miles, rather than every 10,000 miles. Lastly, the coolant should be changed at 60,000 miles, but afterwards it only needs to be changed every subsequent 45,000 miles, just like in normal operating conditions.
