Not since Dick Tracy’s 2-Way Wrist Radio have we seen a cooler multi-purpose timepiece than the Apple Watch. The iconic timepiece has already made a big impact in a short time, which makes it a natural fit for Ford’s line of electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles.
The 112-year old Ford Motor Company is teaming up with the 39-year old Apple Inc. to produce smartwatch apps that will allow Ford EV and hybrid owners to monitor the battery charge levels of their vehicles. The smartwatch apps will be compatible with Ford C-MAX Energi, Ford Focus Electric and Ford Fusion Energi vehicles.
The apps will also allow users to perform other vital functions that include the following:
Users can download a MyFord Mobile app update for Apple Watch and Android Wear apps by visiting the Apple App Store or Google Play. The all-new apps for the Apple Watch are specifically optimized for convenient display and use. The app also offers Google Maps capabilities to help orient drivers.
At this moment, MyFord connectivity is only being offered for select Ford electric and hybrid models. That said, given the rapid rate at which auto companies are developing connectivity technology, we should soon expect smartphone apps to control all of our vehicle functions. After all, it’s what Dick Tracy would’ve wanted.
While we wait for this bold new future to arrive, take advantage of the great deals we have on fantastic “green” models like the Camry Hybrid and Highlander Hybrid when you shop at Toyota of Katy. The staff at our greater Houston-area dealership can help you find an environmentally friendly vehicle that you’ll have fun driving!
