You will believe that a 2016 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 can roar. More on that in a moment.
Among the show’s highlights were the 1949 MG TC race car that launched Shelby’s racing career, as well as newer models such as the 2015 Shelby GT and Baja 700 Raptor. Among the new Shelby vehicles to make their debut was the 2015 Shelby GT, a supercharged Mustang capable of 627 horsepower.
The Shelby tribute show functioned much like a convention for gearheads: there was a Ford and Shelby car show, an awards ceremony and panel discussion, and even a Texas style chili bar. Proceeds from the event were donated to the Carroll Shelby Foundation, which assists children battling life-threatening illnesses and offers automotive education scholarships.
The site of the show, the Carroll Shelby Foundation Headquarters, has a Gardena mailbox but is in fact a warehouse in Carson, CA where Shelby began to ply his trade. The warehouse will become the future home for a museum that will house vintage Shelby vehicles. The opening date for that museum, the Carroll Shelby Automotive Museum, has not yet been announced.
By showcasing vehicles like the Shelby GT350, the Carroll Shelby Tribute Car Show honors its inventor, Carroll Shelby, and the “larger-than-life persona” embodied by both, to quote Shelby American CEO Joe Conway.
Of major interest to all Ford muscle car fans was the 2016 Ford Shelby GT350 Mustang, whose release was previously reviewed in this blog. Only 137 Ford Mustang Shelby vehicles will be available for the 2015 model year. The 2015 rollout commemorates the 50-year anniversary since the original Shelby GT350 was built by Carroll Shelby himself.
So we’ve kept you waiting long enough—now we present the Shelby GT350 Mustang in action. Our friends over at The Driver supplied the view below. The sound you’re about to hear is being generated by a 5.2-liter, flat-plane V-8 that is Ford’s most powerful naturally aspirated engine. Check it out:
