The All-New 2017 Ford Fusion Energi

In the past few years, many companies have been focusing on improving the MPG on their vehicles. Many companies have started offering hybrid vehicles while some have even introduced complete electric cars. Over the years, the MPG has gotten much better on vehicles and electric vehicles can now travel farther than before. For those that are not ready for complete electric, a hybrid plug in option is also available.

When gas prices were surging in the US, consumers rushed to purchase hybrid vehicles. A few years ago the average hybrid vehicle would give roughly 40-50 mpg. At that time this was great, since most cars were averaging about 20-30 mpg. However, over the years as regular cars became more efficient they also started delivering 40-50 mpg such as the Honda Civic LX or the Toyota Corolla L. This made the extra cost of a hybrid vehicle not worth it for some, since spending thousands more for only 10 extra mpg was not going to save them much money.

Eventually, electric cars were introduced and they became a better choice for those that wanted to save money on gas, and didn’t have to commute far for work. Cars such as the Nissan Leaf and Mitsubishi i-Miev made it easy for a person to charge the vehicle overnight and drive to work the next morning. For those that had a longer commute and wanted to spend more the Tesla was a great option since it offered over 200 miles per charge.

Individuals that were not ready to switch over to complete electric, and didn’t find a hybrid vehicle to have much benefit, found themselves with a new option. The Ford Fusion Energi is an example of that option, with a plug-in hybrid option, which allows you to take advantage of a hybrid car that also runs on electricity. The new Ford Fusion Energi now gets up to 610 miles per trip which will make it one of the highest range cars available on the market. The Fusion Hybrid will get 43 mpg in the city and 41 mpg on the highway. It will also get 20 miles off a charge so if the driver doesn’t have to commute far, they can run off electricity.

With car manufacturers improving the efficiency of their vehicles every year, switching to complete electric is still far away for most consumers. The Ford Fusion Energi will start at around $22,000 and have multiple trim options. Cars such as the Ford Fusion and Chevy Bolt have shown that it is possible to have an extremely efficient vehicle at an affordable price.
