In nature, a raptor is a bird of prey that uses clear vision, a strong beak and sharp talons to hunt and feed. The 2017 F-150 Raptor may not be able to soar like a hawk or eagle, but it proved just as tough in its initial durability test across the desert trails of the southwestern U.S.
The auto experts at the Ford Motor Company created the 2017 Raptor to be the world’s toughest off-road truck and it proved itself up to the task. In its initial round of durability testing, the Raptor drove over 1,028 of desert trail with an approximate average speed of 50 mph. As a show of its versatility, the Raptor was able to reach speeds of 100 mph as well as decelerate to 10 mph.
According to Ford, the southwest desert trail the Raptor drove resembled the Baja 1000, an off-road race course in Mexico that stretches 66 miles and features varied terrain. With that said, Ford engineers placed the Raptor under a greater degree of stress than a typical driver might in order to test the durability of the vehicle.
From all indications, the trial was a success but Ford plans on putting the 2017 Raptor through additional trials before it goes on sale in fall 2016. Fore more info on the 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor, visit the Ford Social page.
